My whitest white, brightest colours, most powerful, fuel efficient, low cost, long lasting, rust resistant Turkish trip ever. And at home the Liberati.
I have come to the realization that the Liberati in control of the Ontario Government have truly lost their minds. They have introduced a law to have Calorie counts and Sodium levels on menu boards in a vain attempt to “educate” you, the great unwashed.
Let’s start where we always have started in the past, in the beginning. The primary assumption is that the public, (YOU) will know what a calorie is and what Sodium means. Not just that it is a nutritional number which at times thought to be bad if its high, but how that relates to you when you eat, but also when they are good Calories and bad Calories and that all Sodium is bad. Without contention, we all need Calories and Sodium. Everybody, all of us, the world.
What you or the masses may not know is how to discern which are good ones and which are bad ones. “100 calories of cake is not the same thing as 100 calories of protein and fiber.” Further, “If we ate just spoonfuls of sugar all day, we would ultimately die. There are no nutrients to accompany those sugar calories—and our bodies need a variety of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and so on to function properly.
Foods are not made up of calories alone, but rather they are complex mixtures in terms of fiber, nutrients, and additives. This can have a vastly different effect on the hormones that control hunger (leptin) and those that tell our bodies to either burn or store fat (insulin). Complicating things is the fact that our bodies are naturally programmed to defend our fat stores as a biological means of protecting against long-term starvation”
Okay, so I have lost you already!
See how easy that was? Now place yourself at your favourite eating place, even The Keg type of restaurant, and beside the price are two more numbers. Sodium and Calories. So as I have read the proposed legislation, the numbers will be as large as the price, but not the descriptor. If I place NaCl beside one and Cal beside the other, first off all the Dyslexic of us, (estimated in some degree to be up to 10% of the population) will never be able to figure out which is which.
So Sodium eh? What’s that? Why do we need it? “Sodium is a major mineral found in the fluid surrounding the cells in your body where it helps to regulate blood pressure and fluid volume, and it also helps maintain pH balance. Your muscles and nervous system also need sodium to function properly.”
NaCl, Sodium Chloride, Sheesh it comes from the ground. Found in many items, more in processed items, more in breads and cheeses. For the most part, salt is added in the processing to aid in that processing. Salt to bread allows for less adherence to the pans, to cheese, adds flavour, controls acidity, removes whey from the curd, and acts as a preservative.
Confused yet? Well let’s say that if this Liberal mistake we call The Government in Ontario prevails, we will all pay more, for everything. To pay for new menus and analysis, costs will be transferred to you the customer, in turn higher taxes are paid and the Liberals again prove that they feel that there is a bottomless pocket in every taxpayer in Ontario. Those guys think our pockets are so deep we will pay for their retirement. Oops, we ALREADY pay for their retirement.
Someday I will add them to the other group I adore. L’s, D’s, and T’s. just ask, I will tell you.
No saline in mine Sally, just the drip.
