So now fellas
I think about this whole energy consumption problem. It’s not a shortage we are having, it’s a wastage. We are inherently gonna do what we wanna do. No regulations, nor higher costs, nor smarter ways are going to change our nature. I thought they had settled that nature or nurture catechization.
If you think smart, then generally you will do the smart thing. Period. We are not going to win by trying to chink away at the armour of the mullet head in Arkansas. Have there not been enough mono-dentate weddings to convince us of what our path should be?
How does one person justify their activity if it is thought to be socially unacceptable? They don't, cuz’in what they are doing is within the societal norms of acceptability. Some Jo wants to drive around in his 4X4 its OK with us. It is. Ever see a 4X4 defaced by some symphony going snob? Nope. So there you have it. It’s OK.
Until the day arrives where the average person is both embarrassed and pissed off about the people wast’in the stuff like its flowing off the mountain like water off a tin roof in a hurricane, wastage will go on. We are more pissed at the price than we at the waste. We are more pissed at the profits than we are of the waste. We are more pissed at the Arab Sheiks than we are at the waste. We are more pissed at the politicians than we are at the waste. We are more pissed at the poor guy working the gas kiosk than we are at the waste.
We need to get pissed at the waste. Period. See how easy it is to get to the waist? Slothsomeness is one of the seven deadly ones. It leads to waste. Which leads to waist. And this is the result of our nature, unquestionably not that which nurtured us. We are just not impassioned about the nature of things. How could we be interested in something named after an old TV show on the ubiquitous public broadcasting system of our fair country?
The general public is not, and has never been, overly perspicacious. How do we get pissed, if we cannot even see the waste? Yeah yeah, we have all put in special windows and insulated our abodes out the wahzoo. We drive slower in smaller cars. Don't take s many vacations or trips to the cottage. We turn off lights. We lower or raise our thermostats according to the season, (at least those of use with more than one canine not living in Arkansas). We live closer to our work, and work closer to the ground. That is how aware we are of the waste. Just enough to change SOME things. Not aware enough to get pissed at the waste. Just aware. Since when has aware, been pissed?
Never. Never has been. Never will.
Let’s look at the most recent national figures regarding fuel consumption as a percentage of total energy consumption. Who is at the top of the list? Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Burundi with 97.6, 96, 95.6 and 94.2 percent respectively of their energy consumption going to fuel. Who is at the Bottom? Of 130 countries, Israel, Singapore, Jordan, and Uzbekistan all with an immeasurably small, less than one tenth of one percent, of their energy use going to fuel. So the big question rising in all of our collective consciousnesses is where do we and the USA rest on the list?
Of 130 countries:
#79 Canada: 4.7%
#80 Greece: 4.5%
#81 Mexico: 4.5%
#82 Australia: 4.4%
#83 Mongolia: 4.3%
#84 Argentina: 4 %
#85 Morocco: 4 %
#86 United States: 3.8%
#87 United Kingdom: 3.3%
So actually how much can we change to make the difference? What about the other 90 plus percent? Would it not be easier to make a bigger more substantive difference on that huge chunk? Don't pester me about my 4 banger pumping along at a buck twenty. Forget it. Me cut my use in half? Dream! Where and who is in control of the remainder. Let them cut some. If they cut 4 points off their usage, they will hardly notice. If I cut two points, I am penalized by a half!
Even those darn northern Europeans use more than we do, Finland at 6.5 % and the God like Sweden at 17.9%. Get real! Get pissed, get waisted.
As before Vox dot com is coming to an interweb thingy near you!
